Yo. If you are reading this, you actually have curiosity. You saw some odd, clicked and clicked again, and found us.

Let me tell you where you are.

It's 1995. Late. There's a payphone lighting up the street like a beacon in the darkness. Everything that matters still electrifies copper. There's a payphone on every corner, and every one of them is a door into the biggest machine anyone ever built. The people who built it think it's locked.

It isn't. It never was. It just takes someone who pays attention to where all this wires go.

That's what we do here. We listen. The phone company hears 2600 hertz and thinks it's their tone. We hear it and think: that's the key.

Here's what's coming down the wire.

In November, the line opens. In New York there's a phone booth that shouldn't be there. You'll pick up the receiver and dial into the DefCon Voice Bridge, a conference call populated by a bunch of n00bs and the occasional 1337. For about an hour, it's you and a voice in your ear. I decide what you're ready for. You decide how far you go.

Before that, I'm running tests. Nine days, November 11 through 19, five slots a day, from anywhere with a phone. If you want to be one of the first voices on the bridge, the booking is at 1337.show. Read all of it before you book. I mean that. I don't spring surprises I haven't warned you about.

And I'm short-handed. Somebody has to be the voice on the other end: someone who can hold a stranger on a line for an hour with nothing but their throat and their nerve. If you know what a blue box is without looking it up, or you know someone who does, the call is out until September 30. And somebody has to be the one actually in the room in New York, keeping the booth alive while I work the line from somewhere else entirely.
